WHERE WILL YOU GO FIRST?

In this city you can see the sights, visit museums, shop, party, sunbathe and eat until your heart’s content (foodies will find the choice overwhelmingly satisfying). With this much choice, it's hard to know what to do first.

Perhaps a good place to start is at the beginning. Greece's rich historical civilisation has left behind some of the greatest archaeological sites to visit and this city has some that are definitely worth a visit. Start your visit with a drive to the Greek Agora and Roman Forum, the Roman heart of the ancient city. Standing in the midst of this thriving metropolis, the Agora was constructed in the 1st century AD by the Romans. The Forum was the epicentre of Thessaloniki's political and public life. This area is free to enter, so follow the fascinating, well preserved, sunken corridors to the end where you'll find the informative underground museum, which is worth a visit. If your interest is in antiquities, then car rental will enable you to see the many wondrous structures around the city.

The Old City, featuring examples of traditional Macedonian and Ottoman architecture, is a great next stop. If you're interested in experiencing the city as a local would with a little shopping mixed in for good measure, this open air market spreads over several streets and is open six days a week, selling everything from olives to clothes.

You won’t run out of things to do in Thessaloniki, but why not take advantage of your hire car and take a trip 12 miles out of the city to Sindos Cemetery, the site of numerous priceless excavations. This site is believed to date back to the 5th century BC, and it’s a great location for a picnic and some relaxation. On the trail of relaxation the beaches within a short drive of the city are awesome. Agia Triada is just a short drive from the city. The stunning organised beach has soft sands and crystal clear waters, and a nice range of places for food and refreshment. But if you're looking for a beach with a vibrant buzz then Perea beach has a vivid night-life and many tourist facilities.

Wherever you go on your tour of this ancient city, whatever you want to see, CarGreece.gr will get you there in comfort.
