SET OFF IN LEFKADA
If you’re looking for a starting point, drive over to Lefkada Town. This port town is the island’s capital and offers a great variety of shops and restaurants, as well as various museums. This is a typical Greek town with pretty roads and squares, traditional houses and historical sites. Take a trip to the 13th century Agia Mavra fort, located at the entrance of the town. The fort has a great atmosphere, so have your camera to the ready for some great holiday snaps. The central square of the town features multiple restaurants and cafés, plus a 17th century church called Agios Spyridonas. The church contains an impressive iconostasis and interesting icons, so don’t miss it. There is a lot to see in this atmospheric town and it makes a great base to travel to the many beaches in Lefkada.
The choice of beaches are vast on this beautiful island. Agios Ioannis beach is just a short drive from Lefkada Town. The golden hues of this beach are only enhances by the azure waters and surrounding exotic landscape. This is a popular, organised beach and a great spot for windsurfing. The area is also home to some old windmills that create a picturesque environment to spend some time.
